What Is Carbon Fibre?

  • 3 min read

Carbon Fibre is a material stronger than steel, metal and fibreglass. Yet its lightweight property enables designers and engineers to create a wide and flexible range of products.

Often used in automobiles, aerospace and military, it does not corrode or react with chemicals or fire easily. Large woven sheets of continuous fibre can be cut into short pieces and/or bound with resin.

⚒️ Manufacturing Carbon Fibre

You can imagine the fibres of carbon to be extremely thin and unstretchable. In manufacturing, these fibrelike strands can break easily. When broken and surrounded in mid-air, it is hazardous and can affect human health or damage equipment.

Therefore, at ItzJuzCarbon’s manufacturing facilities in Kuala Lumpur and Guangzhou, we exercise extreme caution and care in handling carbon fibre materials.

Symptoms such as itching or pain can occur if it sticks to your skin or mucous membranes. We minimize exposure and if in unlikely contact, it is advisable to wash it off with water gently.

💭 How Is Carbon Fibre Made

Creating carbon fibre consists of both chemical and mechanical processes. Raw materials are formed into long strands and heated at high temperatures without oxygen at all. This results in violent vibration to dispel all non-carbon atoms, also known as the Carbonization Process.

Once these fibres made entirely of carbon atom chains, they are then woven into fabric or combined with other materials that can be molded into different shapes and sizes. At ItzJuzCarbon, we manufacture our formulated sheets of carbon fibre from scratch and raw materials, including processes such as epoxy, resin, sanding and dry sanding.

✅ Properties of Carbon Fibre

  • Each strand is 5-10 microns in diameter, approximately 0.000195 inches.
  • That’s thinner than a single strand of spiderweb silk!
  • Five times stronger than steel
  • Highly chemically resistant
  • High-temperature tolerance
  • Low thermal expansion

⛑️ Real Life Applications

Carbon fibre is often used in industries such as construction, engineering, aerospace, high-performance vehicles, sporting equipment, and musical instruments.

In the field of energy, it is also used in the production of windmill blades, natural gas storage, and fuel cells for transportation. In the aircraft industry, it has applications in both military and commercial aircraft, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles.

For oil exploration, it’s used in the manufacture of deepwater drilling platforms and pipes.

The creativity and diversity of how Carbon Fibre material is used is boundless.

At ItzJuzCarbon, we provide a one-stop solution for both businesses and consumers alike. From manufacturing and supply to automobile wrapping services (interior and exterior), we are your trusted specialists.
